Another Kurzweil Module - the K1000 AX Plus

Kurzweil 1000 AX Plus

The Kurzweil 1000 AX Plus is another Kurzweil sound module (related to, but different from the 1200 pro I) that offers mainly string and horn sounds. It's natural instrument sounds are very impressive and it can be upgraded to a Pro-II module with an expanded repertoire of mainly string and horn sounds. A discussion of upgrades can be found at:
http://k1000.net/

At my FTP site - http://users.rcn.com/lsireland - I have uploaded info and pictures illustrating an example of the ROM chip and motherboard structure inside a K1000 AX Plus as a pdf file:
K1000AXPlus_info.pdf
The file also lists the wavefiles provided by the K1000 AX Plus.

Also at the FTP are two banks (binhexed Mac Object Mover files) of my own sound programs (patches) for the K1000 AX Plus:

Roy’s AXPlus Bank1
Roy’s AXPlus Bank2

There are two accompanying pdf files of the same name at the FTP site which provide descriptions of the corresponding patches.

K 1200 Pro I Wavefiles List

While programming the Kurzweil 1200 Pro I, I've found it useful to have a list of the sampled wavefiles encoded in the synth in the order that they appear when scrolling through the Soundfile menu (206). This helps to get to the desired soundfile quickly during programming.

I've made a pdf file of this list (1200 Pro I Wavefiles.pdf) and uploaded it to my FTP site: http://users.rcn.com/lsireland

URL for Pro I FTP

To manipulate programs and banks on the K1200 Pro I, I am using Mac Object Mover on a Power Mac running on OS 8.6, saving the programs/banks as MOM files. I also have Galaxy.

Kurzweil 1200 Pro I Banks

I have recently developed two banks of new sounds for the Pro I and have made these available - together with the original Kurzweil 1200 Pro I programs - for FTP download from the following location:

http://users.rcn.com/lsireland

All the MOM program files have been binhexed, so they will need to be un-binhex'd following download from the FTP site. The relevant files at the FTP site are:

1200 Pro I PROGS copy.hqx Original Kurzweil Pro I programs

Roy’s KProI Bank 1.Hqx
A bank of 23 new programs that I recently developed

Roy’s KProI Bank-1.pdf
A pdf doc containing a description of each program in Bank 1, incl. Prog & ID No’s and a comment on each patch

Roy’s KProI Bank 2.Hqx
A bank of a further 23 of my new programs

Roy’s KProI Bank-2.pdf
A pdf doc with a description of each prog in Bank 2

My new programs are mainly an exploration of the K1200 Pro I’s ability to generate synthetic sounds, including some nice analogue-type synth patches and pads, but there are also some electric pianos in there and some patches with combinations of natural instruments.

FTP
Here are a few tips regarding FTP downloading of these files:

If you are using MAC OS 8.6:Go to the URL shown above and click on the relevant file to download to your computer.
If the file is a Binhex’d MOM file (hqx):Launch Binhex, select Binhex-to-application, then select the relevant hqx file- the hqx file should be converted to the original MOM file.

If you are using a Mac G4 running OS X:Go to the URL shown above and click on the relevant file to download to your computer (do not OPEN and do not "unstuffit" at this stage - just SAVE to diskYou may need to do two iterations of Binhexing to recover the MOM file.

I can also upload banks as (binhex'd) Galaxy files if necessary (and probably also SYSEX files, though I haven't tried this yet).

I would be interested to receive other people's banks of sounds for the 1200 Pro I (and other K1000 modules). I do not have the K1000 Kurle editor/librarian for PC, so if anyone has programs in this format and knows how I might access them on a Power Mac please let me know.

Kurzweil 1200 Pro I

The initial focus of this blog will be sound synthesis and sound programme libraries for the Kurzweil 1200 Pro I synthesizer module. (In contrast, technical issues for this synthesizer are handled by the Yahoo K1000 Users group).
I am currently developing new sounds for the K1200 Pro I and would like to discuss sound synthesis on this instrument with other Kurzweil enthusiasts.
